Legion FC to host Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday

Legion FC have had the perfect start to the 2020 USL campaign. With a record of 2-0, they sit atop USL Championship Group G.

Firing on all cylinders, newcomer Bruno Lapa and veteran Brian Wright have been the high points of the season thus far. It seems like this duo will find the back of the net in every contest, so let’s hope their scoring ability continues for a while.

Lapa has unveiled an elite sense of quickness on the wing, with slashing cut back play to pose a threat for any defense. Wright, as we saw him do last year, has simply used his strength and underrated speed to dominate defenders and create 1v1 opportunities.

The Legion will look to continue their form against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday.

So far, Tampa Bay has had successful form in 2020 as well. The club sits in first place in Group H with a record of 2-1-0. Since the restart, the Rowdies defeated a 10-man Atlanta United 2 and drew with North Carolina FC. Nothing too extraordinary from a historically dominant club, but it is certainly too early to tell with several USL teams, including Tampa Bay.

Last times the clubs faced off, the Legion held on for an impressive 1-0 victory in Tampa Bay after former Legion forward Eddie Opoku unleashed a rocket past goalkeeper Macklin Robinson in the 49th minute of the contest. That celebratory combo of Akeem Ward’s hand gesture and Opoku’s flexing was certainly something that made you jump off the couch and flex yourself.

We sure do miss you, Eddie!

According to the most recent USL power rankings, the road win over Charleston helped propel Legion FC nine spots up to number eight. The Rowdies fell one spot to the fourth position after their draw with NCFC.

It is safe to say that this contest should make for a thrilling matchup in The Magic City.

The game is set for a 6:30 PM (CST) kickoff at BBVA Field in Birmingham. The action can be streamed live on ESPN+.
