Legion FC set to begin Playoff journey
6:30 PM CT. ESPN+ and MY68. Tune in to see the boys in black fight for a USL Cup.
That trek begins tonight with a tough matchup against Group H winners Tampa Bay Rowdies.
With a 12 percent chance to lift the USL Cup this year, Tampa Bay are certainly favorites on their home pitch.
Legion FC, who controlled Group G for months, have fallen into terrible form entering the playoffs. It was the final game of the season that determined whether or not they would clinch the top spot in the group, and once again, they fell to a previously eliminated Memphis FC side.
Birmingham and Tampa Bay have played some great contests over the past two seasons, but a Legion victory thanks to a stunning Eddie Opoku goal gave the boys in black the win in Tampa when the squad made an immense push for the playoffs in their inaugural season. Hopefully they can channel some of that same magic tonight.
In the first contest of the season, a smooth Alex Crognale goal gave the Legion an early lead, but the game finished level at 1-1.
With a victory tonight, Legion FC would travel next weekend to face the winner of the Charleston Battery at Charlotte Independence match. That match kicks off at 6:00 PM CT on Saturday, thirty minutes before TBRvBHM and will be available to watch on ESPN+.
In tonight’s matchup, I am expecting a physical, defensive battle. If things work in our favor, I think Neco Brett will be the goalscorer, but I eventually see a 1-1 match going all the way into a penalty shootout.
However, considering the Legion’s form as of late, I am expecting to fall 5-4 in penalty kicks, but I’m hoping the squad can prove me wrong this evening.
Hammer down!
