If there is no Barons season this year it could spell heartbreak for the Magic City
If there is no Barons season this year it will be heartbreaking for our entire city.
Covid-19 has shut sports completely down. Now some sports are slowly starting to come back and with the coming back of sports also comes hope, but I don’t know what is to come of the 2020 baseball season. Which means we may not see our Barons this year, and that would be heartbreaking for the city.
Last year I worked for the Barons full-time and it was an amazing experience, just being at regions field day in and day out, seeing the inner workings of what goes on, and all the hard work that’s put in was truly memorable. I will always cherish my time working with them, the staff is awesome, the players are great and that stadium is top notch. If there is no season this year, it will truly be heartbreaking. That means no cheap hotdog night, wet nose Wednesdays, thirsty Thursdays , Friday fireworks, school days, all the giveaways, all the guests and so much more. The barons are not just a place to go see a game, its a place to go and enjoy community and be a distraction for a few hours. It’s a place where families can have fun with each other and the community can come together. The smells, the music, the traditions, the long games, the food and the people.
One of my favorite stories to tell about last years season was on 4th of July, it was a sold out crowd. The game was close and it was heading into the 10th inning, there were runners at 1st and 3rd, Blake Rutherford stepped up to bat and blasted a walk-off homerun and sent the crowd into a frenzy. I watched people dance, hug each other, high fives all over the place and then no less than 5 mins later the big fireworks show from the Vulcan started and capped off the night. It’s one of those games you just had to have been there. Those are the kind of memories we will be missing if we don’t get a season this year.
Sports of all kinds brings people together, but Barons baseball brings the city together. Let’s all keep hoping for the best possible outcome for this season and lets all come together if we have a season this year and just have some fun.
Go Barons.
