UAB has a few draft prospects this year, let’s check them out.

Uab has a few potential draft prospects that could be drafted in this years draft. Let’s start with the 2 that were at the senior bowl, for the first time since 2012 the blazers had a couple players represented at the senior bowl. First is WR Austin Watkins. He is 6’3” and around 207lbs. In the 2020 season he played seven games and had 33 catches for 466 yards, with 3 touchdowns. He earned first team All- conference USA also. He has some good solid height and is a solid athlete. The draft experts say he has some work to do but has a solid foundation. He does have some great route running skills already, but there is room too improve on a lot with that. This draft class is a deep one for receivers, but some are saying he could be a day 3 guy.

Next up we have Jordan Smith. He is a linebacker at 6’6 and around 255 lbs. In his first year in 2019 with the blazers he ended up with 8 sacks and 3 forced fumbles, and because of that he was ranked in the top 10 in the conference for tackles for loss and 4th for sacks. He built on that in the shortened 2020 season, racking up some more great stats. In the season opener vs Miami he had his career-high in tackles and had 2 tackles for loss. He earned first team all-conference and like Watkins had an invite to the senior bowl.

Next we got RB Spencer Brown, he has broken school records in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns. He is the only player in conference history to be named conference USA championship game mvp twice, in 2018 and 2020. In 8 games this past year he rushed for 889 years and 10 touchdowns, he averaged 111.1 yards a game. He stands about 6 foot and is 220 pounds. Projected as a day 3 selection I think he can make a great addition to any backfield. He has great size and is very shifty.
