Samford basketball – New coach, new style. It’s Bucky ball time.
If you are a sports fan in the Birmingham area I’m sure you have heard about Coach Bucky McMillan. He coached at local powerhouse high school team, Mountain Brook. There they won title after title in state and then playing teams from all over the US, being nationally ranked many times. He was named national boys coach of the year in 2018, his teams won a ton of awards and championships. But the best thing about it, is his style of play and the way he carries himself. It’s constant movement on both sides of the ball, in your face pressure non stop, lots of subs in and out the whole game, and coaching his players to give 100% total effort all the time. That is exactly what you see when watching a Bucky coached team, you always see him coaching his players on the sideline more than yelling at the officials. Now he takes that style to the next level at Samford University. Many wonder if that style of play will work there, and I say absolutely it will. High school to a D1 program is a huge jump, but if anyone can do it and do it well, it’s Coach Bucky. It will be very exciting to be at the Pete Hanna center this basketball season, you can expect some intense defensive pressure, some very good ball movement on offense and each player going all out. Basketball is a fun sport, and watching the Samford Bulldogs will be a fun experience for all coming up this season.
